Girl Scout Sunday

Actor/Environmentalist Ed Begley Jr. with Environmental Changemakers
Founder Joanne Poyourow

As a community of active, involved, and dedicated people, there is always something going on at Holy Nativity.

Recently, Holy Nativity community members greeted students, workers, community and religious leaders and offered hospitality and refreshments on the October 25, "The Day of the Dead Tired." The pilgrimage began at Loyola Marymount and made its way to Century Blvd where marchers walked from the Hilton LAX to the Westin hotel for a rally. The day ended with prayers and a healing service for the hotel workers, many of whom suffer from chronic pain, disabilities, and other work-related injuries. See the video here

OUTREACH:
We reach out to the poor. Holy Nativity is a sponsor of the Food Pantry-LAX, a food bank for those who lack basic foodstuffs. We collect food and raise money for distribution to hundreds of the residents most in need in Los Angeles.

We host a community day school for LAUSD.

ENVIRONMENTAL CHANGE-MAKERS:
Our Environmental Change-Makers meets the fourth Thursday of every month -- a support group that discusses issues involving global warming, conservation, sustainability. Among our speakers has been actor Ed Begley, Jr. and local Councilman Bill Rosendahl. We are working at making a better world.

WOMEN’S GROUP:
The Women’s Monthly Potluck provides the women of the parish a chance to meet, discuss relevant topics, and get to know each other better.

COMMUNITY GARDEN
Holy Nativity Parish is in the process of creating a community garden. Together with neighbors and other community organizations, we plan to "re-purpose" a portion of our side lawn to create a functional garden. Read more about the Garden here.

BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS:
For the annual Blessing of the Animals, we host everything from pythons to poodles in an afternoon of fellowship.

GOURMET COOKING CLASSES:
We invite the community to our gourmet cooking classes, which have covered how to make such fare as tamales, holiday cookies, summer barbeque, vegetarian dishes, and the exotic delights of Pakistan. We bring in people from the local community to share specialty cooking with us.

CHILDREN’S ACTIVITIES:
Kids are always welcome at Holy Nativity. Besides being a part of our many activities, we have had a visit from Circus Minimus for a fun-filled day of magic and juggling and antics and hilarity for all.
